An economy and shops on your Minecraft server with EssentialsX and QuickShop

Give players money with EssentialsX, connect plugins through VaultUnlocked and let players trade in chest shops with QuickShop-Hikari.

An economy on your Minecraft server has three layers. EssentialsX keeps track of how much money everyone has. VaultUnlocked is the bridge that lets other plugins use that money. QuickShop-Hikari turns a chest into a shop. All three work on Paper and Purpur.

Installing

  1. Make a backup and install EssentialsX as described in Install EssentialsX. It also explains which version you need on Minecraft 26.2 and 26.3.
  2. In the game panel, go to Plugins, search for VaultUnlocked and click Select version. Pick the newest paper version and click Install plugin.
  3. Do the same for QuickShop-Hikari and restart your server.

On 2 November 2026, VaultUnlocked 2.20.3 and QuickShop-Hikari 6.3.0.3 work up to and including Minecraft 26.3.

Why not the well-known Vault? Its last version dates from July 2020. VaultUnlocked registers itself as Vault, so plugins that need Vault work with it. Do delete an old Vault.jar from the plugins folder.

Then type vault-info in the console. It should show EssentialsX Economy as the economy.

Money with EssentialsX

  • /balance or /bal: check your balance.
  • /pay Steve 50: send money to another player.
  • /baltop: the richest players.

As an admin you change balances in the console:

eco give Steve 100
eco take Steve 50

In plugins/Essentials/config.yml you set starting-balance (0 by default) and currency-symbol ($ by default). With economy-log-enabled: true, sales are logged in trade.log in the same folder, which is useful if you suspect someone of duplicating items.

Regular players need permissions. With LuckPerms:

lp group default permission set essentials.balance true
lp group default permission set essentials.pay true
lp group default permission set essentials.balancetop true
lp group default permission set essentials.worth true
lp group default permission set essentials.sell true
lp group default permission set essentials.sell.hand true

Selling items to the server

With /sell hand a player sells what they are holding, for the price in plugins/Essentials/worth.yml. Anything not in that file can't be sold. So set your own prices:

  • As an admin: hold an item and type /setworth 5, or type setworth diamond 100 in the console.
  • /worth shows what the item in your hand is worth.
  • /sell inventory sells everything that has a price, but also needs the essentials.sell.bulk permission.

Shops with QuickShop-Hikari

By default, players can't create a shop. Give them that permission in the console:

lp group default permission set quickshop.player true

This is how you create a shop:

  1. Place a chest, with room next to it for a sign.
  2. In Survival, take the item you want to sell in your hand and left-click the chest.
  3. Type the price per item in the chat and put the stock in the chest.

A sign appears on the chest. Other players left-click the sign and type in the chat how many they want. While you look at your shop, these commands work:

  • /qs price 20: a different price.
  • /qs buy: the shop buys instead of sells. Switch back with /qs sell.
  • /qs unlimited: admins only. The shop never runs out, handy for a server shop.

To remove a shop, break the chest.

Rather a menu than the chat?

Open plugins/QuickShop-Hikari/interaction.yml in the File Manager. In the top block, replace TRADE_INTERACTION with TRADE_UI and CONTROL_PANEL with CONTROL_PANEL_UI. Click Save Content and restart your server.
